The Best Way to Keep Your Mouth Healthy

TeamUncategorized

What people don’t know is that oral health affects your overall health. The health of both your teeth and gums can make you healthy, or vice versa it can make you sick. If you are seeing your dentist twice a year for your regular checkups, are there things that you should be doing in between to ensure that every checkup goes smoothly.

Keeping Your Mouth Healthy

Here are some of the best ways to keep your mouth healthy.

  1. Don’t skip dental visits. If you don’t see your dentist every 6 months, then you are like most Americans. People skip going to the dentist for a variety of reasons from phobias to finances or even they’re just being lazy. Don’t fall into that trap because your dentist can help find any early signs of tooth decay.
  2. Ditch the soda habit. The ingredients in soda that make it fizzy are phosphoric acid and citric acid which eat away at the surface of your teeth. One or more sodas a day will cause your enamel to weaken and can even cause your teeth to soften which in turn will make your teeth more susceptible to cavities.
  3. Ditch extra sugar. Sugar is one of the leading causes of tooth decay, it strengthens the bacteria and acidity in your mouth which then causes more plaque and tartar to form in your mouth which is what eats away at your teeth to cause the decay.
  4. Use a proper toothbrush. You want to make sure that your toothbrush has soft bristles and you should replace your toothbrush every 2-3 months to make sure that it’s cleaning your teeth and mouth properly.
  5. Floss daily. This is one thing that most people leave out in their dental routine which is very important. Flossing helps you get out any food particles that are stuck in between your teeth that brushing won’t be able to get out.
